Early `97 - 4th Annual Meeting - Results of the Annual meeting held at Olssons restaurant

Late March ´97 - R.I.P. Lasse - Former Saints President Lasse Åhfeld passes away at a young age, 44 years old. Lasse had been a great team man and companion to all the players and is sorely missed. Terry takes over as treasure.


5 April `97 - Viking Cup - The first ever international between Sweden and Denmark held at a snowy Brohult IP is won by the Danes. 5,9 to 7,21.


12 April `97 - Porno - Swedish Porno magazine Aktuell Rapport are at place at Brohult IP for the Round 1 game between Helsingborg and North Copenhagen. The magazine is released May 20th, with a classic front cover of a nude girl with an Aussie Rules footy covering the right bit. Helsingborg trash the Cudas, 16,26 to 4,5. New Aussie recruit and exchange student living up woop woop in Sweden Luke Holmes is best on ground.


19 April `97 - Terry breaks his Duck - In his fourth season, Terry manages to kick a goal in a officall game of footy anywhere! Helsingborg win over new team Århus in Århus despite a strong comeback from them. Score 8,11 to 10,4.


26 April `97 - Aulin injured - Joacim Aulin is injured against the Round 3 clash against the Tigers. Joacim has never recovered fully from this injury. The Saints lose their first game of the season. The game played at Brohult IP. The score: 2,8 to 17,20.


3 May `97 - Doktors flop - Favourites Helsingborg Saints are knocked out of the Doktors Cup. The Barras win at Stefans BK, 7,10 to 5,14. The Cup is only open to non-Australians.
" I'm German.....go ask DAFL! " - Reini Masarek answering the umpire after being accused of sounding very Aussie.


17 May `97 - Sent off....sent off - The Saints storm back in their away game against Farum, but can't avenge their GF loss, and just lose by a goal. 7,14 to 6,14. Björn Persson is sent off twice during the game.


24 May `97 - Legend game - A undermanned Saints team of fifteen with no Aussies beat a 20 experienced Crocs outfit at Stefans BK. Helsingborg dominate the first half, (3,8 to 10,3), before the Crocs come back. Saints settle and win by 12,10 to 7,17.


31 May `97 - 5 each - Andreas Hoff and Tomas Polacek kick 5 goals each as the Saints roller-coaster season continuos trashing Aalborg at Brohult IP. 18,15 to 7,12.


28 June `97 - Revenge at last - Helsingborg wins a thriller against Farum at Brohult IP with some help of some new found Aussies - Graham McKenzie, Anthony Conelly, Steve Schreuder and John Westley all coming from upper Sweden. The hero of the match is 1st year player Kim Nielsen as with around 10 minutes to go he grabs two marks and kicks 2 goals on his opponent Ian Hill, to put the Saints up 9 points. Final score 12,12 to 11,9.


5 July `97 - Vikings kill Lions - International match between Denmark/Sweden against Great Britain see the Vikings win by 20,24 to 7,10 at Farum. Helsingborg players playing are Hans Hervén kicking a record 7 goals, and Andreas Hoff.


9 August `97 - Anders Nilsson - A undermanned Saints team travelling to Aalborg meet bad boy Anders Nilsson at the terminal. DAFL president Ian Hill gives the go ahead for him to play but warns he better not cause any incidence. He is reported twice as the Saints win 11,9 to 15,15. Anders never responded on his reports to DAFL and therefore is still suspended from the League.


23 August `97 - Not good enough - With the winner getting fourth place, North Copenhagen have no problems defeating the disappointing Saints,11,24 to 8,12 whose season promised so much early. Helsingborg finishes fifth with 6 wins and six losses, their round 11 home game against the Bombers probably costing them a place in the four.


23 August `97 - DAFL B&F - DAFL's Best and Fairest is held at Doktors Pub, Copenhagen. Tigers Shaun Hawkings wins easily. Saints Dario Donelli wins DAFL's most improved. The vote getters for the Saints are:

14 September `97 - Events - The DAFL Grand Final won by Amager over Farum is co-umpired by Saints Luke Holmes. In the curtain-raiser between Rest of the World vs. DAFL Australians sees the Aussies win with Graham McKenzie kicking 4 goals for the Aussies also to play in the team was Luke Holmes and Terry Lundquist. For the ROW, Andreas Hoff kicked 2 goals in his team included, Hans Hervén, Christer Hjelm, Samuel von Post and playing his 50th DAFL match Jörgen Nielsen.


27 September - Oktoberfest Cup - About 10 Helsingborg players journey to Munich to play in the 9 a side lightning tournament in Munich, Germany. The other teams competing are: Munich Roos, Frankfurt Redbacks, Irish Fianna and Paris Blues. A very hung-over Saints finishes third in the competition.


Late `97 - Saints B&F - Held at Down Under Pub. A very successful night hosted by Terry Lundquist. Again the votes had be counted at Brohult IP earlier and was presented on the night. Reini Masarek does a heartfelt speech on winning the newly formed Åhfeldt medal. The results:
